Top 10 most useful skills in Runescape 3 for new players!

With 27 individual skills to train, it can be intimidating for new players to approach the 15 year old game. Because it can take years to get a maxed out account, this is my list of the most useful skills in Runescape 3 so you can focus on what matters most!

10. Agility

Training agility allows players to utilize shortcuts. It also allows players to run longer and rest faster. By training agility early on, new players can save hours of cumulative traveling time.

9. Dungeoneering

Dungeoneering itself is not very useful. although it allows players to train multiple skills within the dungeon, the skills can be trained more efficiently using other methods. What makes dungeoneering a useful skill is the rewards. Dungeoneering tokens can be redeemed for all types of rewards including tier 80 weapons and the Charming Imp which automatically picks up charm drops. The resource dungeons like the one located in the Dwarven Mine has a deposit box which is especially useful to lower level players.

8. Runecrafting

Runecrafting allows players to craft the runes needed for magic. Being able to make your own runes is no longer necessary because of the Grand Exchange, but it is still a consistent money making method.

7. Smithing

Smithing allows players to create many items including high tier melee armour and weapons. Smithing gives players of all levels a way to obtain reasonable gear without having to rely on the luck of rng. Since the majority of Runescape is either fighting players or monsters, this is a very good skill for new players to focus on.

6. Slayer

Slayer is a great money making method. Slayer can include assignments to kill bosses which drop the most valuable items in the game. The rewards are also fantastic as they provide an exclusive training method for fletching and the ability to add certain pocket items to the tool belt including the Charming Imp and Bonecrusher.

5. Crafting

Crafting is similar to smithing, but better! It is used to create both magic and ranged armour. It can also be used to create urns which will increase your experience gains. Many quests include crafting as a requirement. It is commonly used as a way to make money as well.

4. Herblore

Herblore allows players to create potions. There are dozens of potions and the majority of them are useful. Training herblore is especially important for low level players who require the effects of stat boosting potions to help them with skilling, killing, and quests. It can be expensive though so it is advised to keep the herbs dropped by monsters killed while training slayer.

3. Defense

Defense is important because you die less the more you level it up. Defense allows players to wear better armour regardless of the combat style chosen. Without a high defense level, players will struggle against the many monsters and bosses of Runescape. Dying to one of these monsters could mean losing your items and armour, which can be devastating a new player who was starting to get the hang of things.

2. Prayer

Prayers have huge benefits which a player can utilize over and over again. At level 47, players unlock the ability to use defensive prayers which can reduce damage taken by 50%. The best part is these prayers can also be used against bosses and other players! There are other useful prayers too including ones that boost your accuracy and allow you to keep an extra item if you die.

1. Magic

Finally, the number one spot is magic. Magic is a combat style that is very easy to train in Runescape 3. There are staffs that provide unlimited air attribute attacks including the Staff of Air for low level players and the Armadyl Battlestaff for high level players. Magic also allows players to use the High Alch spell which turns unwanted items into gold coins. This has been a very common money making method for years. There are many useful spells including the ability to stun enemies and prevent other players form teleporting away in the middle of a fight. Finally, magic allows players to teleport all over Runescape. These teleports are not quite as useful as they once were because of the lodestones. As a bonus, the Duel Arena is a place where maxed mages stake their money on duels. This is essentially the same as fighting someone in the wilderness without the risk of losing all of your items.

The Rise of Digital Games

I remember playing video games on the Nintendo 64. You would slam your favorite game cartridge into the system and turn it on. If the game didn’t immediately start all it took was a few breaths on the cartridge to remove the excess dust and start playing your game. I played many video games since then, but most consoles worked the same way. You put in the game and you are ready to play. That is not the case anymore. The first time I put a physical disc into a console and had to wait before I could play was Grand Theft Auto 5 on Xbox 360. It was a rare occasion, but one I accepted as a necessity as the game was huge compared to others of its time. Then the next generation of gaming consoles were released. The Xbox One and PS4 flooded the market and a new trend became the norm. People would buy digital versions of their games instead of purchasing a physical disc. Digital games were promoted with exclusive bonuses that weren’t available with the purchase of a physical copy of the same ...

My Reflection on Comm-1030

The Social Media class I took this summer was surprisingly better than I expected. It focused on practical skills rather than bombarding me with reading textbook chapters and other pointless busy-work. Instead, I learned how social media platforms differ from each other. I was also able to see new perspectives from other student that made me value some platforms that I was sleeping on. My favorite part of the course was being able to use a social media managing program. Getting certified on Hootsuite was the first time I ever had access to such a program. It was exciting because I could see how a social media manager could use that program to efficiently monitor, post, and respond to users on different websites. I also liked how easy it would be to do quick market research on competitors and partners. It was cool to post about things I normally wouldn’t. It helped me realize how easy it is to create content as long as you have reason behind it. The only thing I didn’t like about the ...
